Orthodontics for Children
You want the best for your children, and as a dad himself, Dr. Blackham understands that.
At Park City Orthodontics, we love working with kids and teens to transform their smiles and boost their confidence, so you can rest easy knowing your child is in good hands.
Check In at Age 7
Most orthodontic patients are children and teens. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, your child should meet with an orthodontist like Dr. Blackham by age seven.
The younger your child is when they visit Dr. Blackham for their first orthodontic checkup, the easier it is to shift their teeth into gear as they get older.
When kids are young, their jaws constantly grow to accommodate new teeth. During this time, orthodontic treatment shifts the teeth more easily for patients who require early treatment.
Not all children require early treatment. Usually, early appointments help us monitor your child’s jaw growth so we know the exact time to start braces.
However, some kids do need a two-phase treatment plan. A short first phase directs jaw growth and development to allow room for permanent teeth.
Two-Phase Treatment for Kids
Dr. Blackham uses two-phase orthodontic treatment to straighten more severe orthodontic cases from an earlier age.
Usually, two-step orthodontic treatments begin between the ages of seven and nine, when many primary teeth remain in a child’s mouth.
At this age, your child will wear braces for a year or two during a period we call active treatment.
Then, Dr. Blackham will remove them, and your child will wear a retainer for about three years during a phase we call retention.
Orthodontics for Teens
At Park City Orthodontics, we know that wearing Invisalign or braces as a teenager isn’t always easy.
But it can also be the best time to fix any issues with your teen’s teeth and bite.
Braces and Invisalign straighten teeth and correct problems like underbites and overbites.
At our offices in Park City, Coalville, and Heber-Midway you can choose from many different types of treatments, including Invisalign clear aligners, modern Damon braces, and see-through ceramic braces.
Dr. Blackham, our board-certified orthodontist, discovers your teen’s goals and lifestyle and customizes a treatment plan just for them.
